Airplane Emergency Landing Due to Quick Development of Mesoscale Convective Complexes

چکیده

Some meteorological phenomena in South America develop quickly and take on large dimensions. These cause disasters for aviation, such as incidents accidents. Mesoscale convective complexes (MCCs) forced a commercial airplane into an emergency landing at Ezeiza International Airport Buenos Aires (Argentina) October 2018. The took off from São Paulo (Brazil) to Santiago (Chile) had alternate after encountering unanticipated agglomerations of MCCs along the flight route; its structure was seriously damaged, which affected safety flight. A synoptic thermodynamic analysis atmosphere, prior event, made based GOES16 infrared satellite data, radiosonde maps several variables stream lines, temperature advection, surface layer thickness CPTEC/INPE NCEP reanalysis data. main observed processes that influenced formation development conglomerates were following: (1) cyclogenesis baroclinic cyclone cold front; (2) coupling subtropical polar jet streams; (3) advection warm humid air low-level stream. Recommendations meteorologists weather forecasting aviators prepared.

The NASA Landing Gear Test Airplane

A tire and landing gear test facility has been developed and incorporated into a Convair 990 aircraft. The system can simulate tire vertical load profiles to 250,000 lb, sideslip angles to 15 degrees, and wheel braking on actual runways. Onboard computers control the preprogrammed test profiles through a feedback loop and also record three axis loads, tire slip angle, and tire condition. The ai...

Controller design for a wall landing airplane

Plane perching on a wire has been demonstrated with success in laboratory conditions by [Cory & Tedrake, 2008]. The present paper focuses on designing a controller for a small wall landing glider. We use a simulator and a reinforcement learning algorithm in a coarsely discretized state-space to design an optimal control for the landing. Analysis of this policy allows us to deduce a simpler clos...

Objective Classification of Tropical Mesoscale Convective Systems

A cluster analysis is applied to the mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) that developed in northern Australia and the surrounding oceans during six wet seasons (September–April) from 1995/96 to 2000/01. During this period, 13 585 MCSs were identified and tracked using an infrared channel (IR1) on the Japanese Meteorological Agency Geostationary Meteorological Satellite 5 (GMS5). Based on the li...

The Use of Cloud-Resolving Simulations of Mesoscale Convective Systems to Build a Mesoscale Parameterization Scheme

A method is described for parameterizing thermodynamic forcing by the mesoscale updrafts and downdrafts of mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) in models with resolution too coarse to resolve these drafts. The parameterization contains improvements over previous schemes, including a more sophisticated convective driver and inclusion of the vertical distribution of various physical processes obta...

Mesoscale convective systems and critical clusters

Size distributions and other geometric properties of mesoscale convective systems (MCS), identified as clusters of adjacent pixels exceeding a precipitation threshold in satellite radar images, are examined with respect to a recently identified critical range of water vapor. Satellite microwave estimates of column water vapor and precipitation show that the onset of convection and precipitation...
